The year 2011 marked the 306th year anniversary of the birth of Nikolaus Zimmermann. This presentation begins 900 years before Nikolaus and Maria (Wasmer) Zimmermann and follows all descendents from Norway, Denmark, Scotland, England, Todtmoos Weg, Engelschwand, Altenschwand, and Säckingen, Germany, and finally to the United States. Nikolaus was the original inspiration for attempting this endeavor to trace the Zimmermann-Athow-Lamb heritage.
My Grandparents, Joseph and Karoline (Schmitt) Zimmermann, whose origins in Todtmoos, Stambach, and Säckingen, Germany, emigrated to Elizabeth, New Jersey in the late 1890's. They were the substance of my search.
Their struggles included the raising of 10 fine children during two World Wars and the Great Depression. Their successes were the 10 fine children and the establishment of the Joseph Zimmermann Travel Bureau of Elizabeth and Linden, New Jersey. Their siblings followed in concert with the establishment of Zimmermann Reisen in Germany.
I dedicate this site to all my relatives. I learned that two World Wars have tainted the desires of the German people to contribute family information. During those war time regimes, the citizenry was made to furnish three generations of family history and their religious beliefs. If the findings were unsatisfactory to the German hierarchy, death was inevitable. God bless them one and all.
I would like to thank Dr. Helmut Faller, Robert Dupuis, Graham Wright, Frank Walter Zimmermann, Jonbar (where ever you are), Helmut Zimmermann and family, Mrs. Land who lived with a Zimmermann family in Säckingen, and the Secretary of the Fridolin Church in Säckingen.
