Welcome to the Zonak Charubin Website.

My name is Theresa Louise Zonak Zimmerley. I have been interested in genealogy for a long time. The family tree on my mother's side had already been done but we had no information on my father's side. No one talked about it.

I had two documents to start my research. I had Jozef'a (Judgy) Naturalization Papers that I received from my aunt Natalia (Lodga) Zonak Meiners. The other document was a mass card that Judgy had filled out to have a mass read for people who had passed away. This document was given to me by Reggie Ceruti Ceccarini.

I couldn't find anything that could help me untangle our family history. Before my cousin Mary Ceruti Martel passed away I had Reggie (her sister) ask her if when she went to heaven if she would ask Zofia and Jozef help me find our relatives in Poland.

Four days after Mary was buried I received an email from Poland. Tomasz Kaminski had seen a posting I had put on the internet looking for information on Charubin and Zonak's. I was skeptical at first because I could find nothing. He then sent me 3 pictures and asked me if Natalia was my mother. On the back of one of the pictures Judgy had written Jozef and Natalia. Still not convinced he sent me another picture this time there was no doubt. It was a picture of my father Joseph Zonak and my Uncle Michael. They were in their early 20's. The last picture I received was of Regina, Reggie (2 yrs old), Zofia (Bubby) and Wanda. He was working on the family tree from Poland so we exchanged information. I then had the Charubin family tree.

I still couldn't find anything on the Zonak's. Four days after my aunt Regina Zonak Ceruti passed away I received an email from a woman named Stella Zonak (no I'm not kidding). She said she thought we may be related. I was then emailed by Wanda Gromadzki and Milena Pijewska. Lucky for me Milena is learning English. When I emailed with Tomasz we had to wait for his wife to interpret what I was saying and converted Polish to English for me. When I first starting talking with Milena and Wanda they said there was much confusion about Jozef Zonak. I had information that wasn't matching documents I had. Wanda went looking for any documents she could find so we could get to the truth. I cannot thank her and Milena for all they did for me. I could never have found this information without them.

I would like to thank Reggie Ceruti Ceccarini for all her help, guidance, patience and laughter especially when we were trying to learn to speak Polish.

I am sure I have missed information and I will be adding more photos. If you see any errors or people I have missed, please email me and I'll will update the website. I am also looking for photo's.

Thank you,
Theresa Zonak Zimmerley
