| This site is dedicated to my paternal genealogy. It includes research not only on the surnames of my two paternal grandparents (Zizzi and Semeraro) but also on numerous other surnames of my ancestors. This site is a work in progress. For my maternal grandfather’s genealogy and my maternal grandmother’s genealogy, click on the links provided at the bottom of this page. *******UPDATE****** 23 July 2007**************************** Since my last update years ago, I have been working at intervals on the significant amount of raw data previously collected: 1. With the aid of distant cousins in Martina Franca, I have added (i) as my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandmother Antonella Colucci, wife of Francesco Giacomo Zizzi and mother of Francesca Zizzi and (ii) as my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents Leonardo Antonio Zizzi and Vitantonia Lacatena, parents of Francesco Giacomo Zizzi. 2. Through a minor line (Amati) from the 1630s, I added a major Zizzi line (that of Teofilo Zizzi) not previously connected. Also, although I still have not found clear links among most very early Zizzis, I found a reference to Belduno Zizzi in the baptism record of his great-great granddaughter. That reference helped me to connect definitively Leonardo Antonio Zizzi, a previously unidentified child, to Giovanni Antonio Zizzi and Perna Antonia D’Alessio. 4. I have added a number of new ancestors on various minor lines on both the Zizzi and Semeraro sides, including new ancestral surnames: Baccaro, Brancasi, Candida, Capriglia, Carella, Cavallo, Delvecchio, Franceschini, Galasso, Greco, Iacomino, Lacatena, Laghezza, Locorotondo, Manora, Marinosci, Minardi, Moro, Murella, Neglia, Pinelli, Pisani, Pomis, Romano, Romito, Salvatore, Saponaro, Sbiroli, Scaramozzi, Seta, Sicilia, Vasta. 5. I have also added numerous Zizzi cousins from the 1500s, 1600s and 1700s as part of a larger catalogue of all Zizzi family members from Cisternino and the region. 6. In the baptism record of Francesco Antonio Giuseppe Semeraro (my great-great-great-great grandfather), the family name is shown as "Semerano". On his father's baptism record, the surname is shown as "Zambarano" and on the baptism records of his father's brother's and sisters, the name is shown as "Zamerano". His great grandfather’s surname is shown as "Zamarano" in the baptism records of three of his children. The foregoing were all born in Ostuni. In Cisternino, the name is only ever spelled as "Semeraro", so the range of spellings in Ostuni is intriguing. 7. Unfortunately, this update must include several corrections of earlier mistranscriptions.
