This site is dedicated to my paternal genealogy. It includes research not only on the surnames of my two paternal grandparents (Zizzi and Semeraro) but also on numerous other surnames of my ancestors. This site is a work in progress. For my maternal grandfatherís genealogy and my maternal grandmotherís genealogy, click on the links provided at the bottom of this page.

*******UPDATE****** 10 October 2010*************************

Since my last update years ago, I have been working at intervals on the significant amount of raw data previously collected:

1. I have mined records to find details of siblings of ancestors in order to find references to their parents and grandparents. Many times, this effort has met with success on multiple minor lines.

2. I have removed Nicola Giovanni Fanelli and Giustina Caprigilia as ancestors after discovering that they are not in fact my ancestors.

3. I have discovered notarial marriage records from the late 1500s confirming the spelling of my ancestor Belduno/Bellodonoís name.

Note on Naming of Children in Southern Italy.

Naming of children in southern Italy during the period prior to the 20th century often followed a pattern. The first born male was named after the paternal grandfather, the second born male taking the name of the maternal grandfather. The third born male was named for the father's eldest brother. If the father had no living brothers, then the mother's eldest brother's name was used; otherwise, the fourth born male child was named for the mother's eldest brother. The pattern continued to second-eldest brothers, third-eldest brothers, etc. Female children were named after the women in the two families following the same alternating name rule.
