Franz and Theresia immigrated from Austria to the United States in 1899, arriving through Galveston, Texas during Autumn of that year. Theresia was known to believe that she was born in Moravia, adding that she was "Bohemian", and her maiden name was Kotska. Besides the parents, there were three children that came. Oldest was Ludmille born 1891, Franz Josef born 1891, and Aloise Josef born 1897. Two additional children were born after the family's arrival, in the community of High Hill near Schulenberg, Texas. Aloise, or Louis, stated on his application for citizenship that he was born in Odrati, Austria. Memories of living family members fail to recall exact date of arrival in the US, as well as any specific details of the family's place of origin in Austria. It is believed that they originated northerly in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, possibly as far as what is now Poland. Spoken language of the emmigres was German. Research into the European origins of this family awaits worthy clues to persue in pre-1900 Austria.
