| UPDATED 6/5/99: Since the First Worldwide Zoeckler Family Reunion held on September 4-6, 1998 in Grünberg, Germany was such a success. I am planning another reunion in the United States for sometime in 2001. Anyone interested in this reunion should get in touch with me. I would like to determine the best location and date. I have been researching the ZOECKLER (ZÖCKLER) and allied families for some years. My ancestor, Martin ZÖCKLER, emigrated from Grünberg, Germany to Wheeling, WV in 1832. The last ZOECKLER to cross the Atlantic is believed to be Reinhold ZÖCKLER in 1862. His last communication with his German relatives was in 1897 from his new home in Chicago. Any information on this family would be appreciated. This site now contains information on over 600 Zoecklers. I am still working with Haiko Swart, the German family genealogist who has been tracing the German ZÖCKLER families for over 30 years. We are still working to gather more information on the links between the American and German families. I have data on 5 separate branches of the Family in the US. UPDATE: The link between Peter ZÖCKLER of Biebesheim, Germany (later Utica, NY) and the ZÖCKLERS of Grünberg, Germany has been found. Check out my latest descendant report below. For your information, some of the common spelling variations for the name are: ZOECKLER, ZÖCKLER, ZECKLER. In the census reports the name has been mispelled as FOECKLER or FOCKLER. It is possible that this spelling also occurs within our family today. I know there may be other spelling variations but time dictates concentrating on the most common ones. My genealogical research includes the following surmanes: CARR (IA & NY), GARDNER (IA & VA), SEVERANCE (IA, OH, & MA), EMEIS (IA), HOUGHTON (IA), GASSNER (IA & PA), ORTH (IA) and HOUSEL (PA).
