John Roby took part in Court Proceedings in October 1512; in March 1512/13, he was admitted tenant to two burgages (a tenure whereby lands were held for a certain annual rental). In June 1513, he was named at Court at which William Roby and three others were admitted to three curtilages. Webster's Dictionary defines curtilage as "the fenced-in ground surrounding a house or dwelling."
