In the will of his father, John Roby, Thomas is admitted as son and heir of John Roby, to a toft, a croft and one yard of land, and a moiety of meadow at rent of 20s per year. (Webster's defines 1. Toft as a homestead or house site. 2. Croft as a small enclosed field or a small farm, especially one worked by a renter. 3. moiety as an indefinite share or part. A yard of land might be compared to a girdle or enclosure of land [Eng]: a space of land surrounding or surrounded by a building or a group of buildings. i.e. farmyard.)

In 1526, Thomas's sister, Emmotte Roby, is admitted to a cottage to the use of her brother Thomas, who in each of the years 1527-1532,1535-1536, is on the homage, and in 1537 is fined for withdrawing toll from the King's Mill, and for breaking fold and taking out his sheep. (Webster's defines 1. fold as a pen in which to keep sheep. 2. homage [syn: allegiance, honor] as a public avowal of allegiance by a vassal to his lord.)

Doubtless, he (Thomas Robie) was the husband of Elizabeth Roby, who sues for debt and is sued for trespass, in the manor court several times from 1555 to 1562, (e.g., in 1559, because she and others have been " trampling the blades in the sown fields" ). Elizabeth Robie, widow, was buried at C.D. 12 Feb. 1564/65.

Robert, who in a Court held at Easter, 1553, with John Cherebough and others, complains of Gray (apparently steward of the manor) for not making copies of certain lands, for exacting too high a pannage, for divers trespasses, and for refusing to receive a verdict of the manor jury. Robey Robey is said to be son and heir of Thomas Robey. He arrpeas to have died in 1562.

Edmund Roby (so signed) in a letter to Rober Rewell, written when on a journey, which letter he declares to be his will, dated 23 Sept. 1586, proved 20 Dec. 1587 (in Prerog. Court, Cant.), leaves L100 to his brother, Bartelmewe, L100 to his sister Mary, to Robt. Rewel certain legacies, and makes his brother John Roby, of Donington, full and sole executor.
